GRANTS DEPARTMENT

Our Mission

To acquire supplemental funds for innovative plans to improve the academic achievement of ECSD students.

Vision & Purpose

The ECSD Grants Department is responsible for the management and oversight of all grant funding in the district. This includes competitive and formula-based, and categorical grants from federal, state, and private sources. The Grants Department oversees fiscal requirements, programming compliance, and evaluation reporting on all grants.

Major Federal Programs

Nevada Gold Mines School Grant Program

We are excited to announce the availability of the Nevada Gold Mine (NGM) grant for the 2024-25 school year. Nevada Gold Mines has extended this generous grant, amounting to $80,000, to support educational initiatives within the Elko County School District (ECSD). ECSD is now responsible for sub-granting those funds to worthy school projects in the communities in which NGM operates.

Priority considerations will be given to projects in areas where NGM has a presence, specifically the Elko, Eureka, Lander, and Humboldt County School Districts. School personnel and affiliate clubs/groups will no longer approach NGM directly for donations but will apply for the NGM School Grant Program through ECSD.

Grant applications will be accepted twice per school year as follows:

Fall Application Due: November 15 (notification of award December 1)

Spring Application Due:  February 1 (notification of award March 1)

Completed applications must be submitted by 5:00 pm on the due date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Questions should be directed to: Megan Cox, Grant Manager mcox2@ecsdnv.net

Incentive Grant

ECSD Incentive Grants are available twice per year. No more than one grant per school will be awarded in any fiscal year with the exception of combined schools, which may be awarded a total of two grants (one elementary and one secondary). Grant awards may not exceed $5,000 in a given fiscal year. Applicants must obtain administrator approval prior to submission. Grant awards may be used for instructional, extracurricular, or capital improvement projects.

Schools must provide matching funds on a dollar-for-dollar basis from some source other than a school’s general fund. If student funds are to be used for matching purposes, please attach a copy of the organization’s minutes which show action taken by students approving the expenditure (i.e., FBLA, Student Council, FFA, etc.).

No grant funds can roll over to the following fiscal year. Grant funds not used during the fiscal year which approved will be lost. Grant funds will not be paid out until matching funds have been received by the Grants Office. A Review Committee, appointed by the Superintendent, will review applications and make recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

Fall Application Due October 31

Spring Application Due January 31

Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER)

The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, more commonly known as ESSER, has been created for the purpose of providing local educational agencies (LEAs), including charter schools and school districts, with emergency relief funds to address the impact that COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on elementary and secondary schools across the nation. Please see our Budgets and Use of Funds to learn more.
