Updates for School Meals Starting August 2024
Starting this school year, some schools will continue to offer free daily breakfast and lunch meals to all students (applications are not required), while other sites will require applications to qualify for free meals.
If your child attends any of the following schools, meals will be charged starting this school year: Liberty Peak Elementary, Mountain View Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary, Sage Elementary, Flag View Intermediate School, Wells Combined, Jackpot Combined, Adobe Middle School, Spring Creek Middle School, Spring Creek High School, and Elko High School.
To ensure your child receives the support they need, we encourage families who might qualify for free or reduced-price meals to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Application. Paper applications will be sent home during the first week of school, and you can also complete the application online starting August 26 or on the first day of school.
If you need more information or help with the application process, please contact your school or call our Nutrition Services Coordinator, Veronica Cervantes, at 775-738-1456.
Community Eligibility Provision
The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a non-pricing meal service option for schools and school districts in low-income areas. CEP allows the nation’s highest poverty schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications. Instead, schools that adopt CEP are reimbursed using a formula based on the percentage of students categorically eligible for free meals based on their participation in other specific means-tested programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
ECSD CEP schools are: Grammar#2 Elementary, Northside Elementary, Southside Elementary, West Wendover Elementary, Carlin Combined, Owyhee Combined, West Wendover Middle School, and West Wendover High School.
